Sharing Gems with the Next Generation
Red The Barber at the Urban Barber College in San Jose, CA sharing some wisdom and a haircut.
It is only right that my first blog post is about my recent visit to the Urban Barber College in San Jose, California. I was very fortunate to share some knowledge and a haircut with the barber students. Many were close to completing the 1500 hours of hands on training and eager to start their barbering career. I could feel the hunger in these young barbers. That visit took me back to my barber college days… We covered a lot in a short amount of time such as: the importance of a barber in their community, the social media hype, finding your place, deciding who sits in your chair and much more!
The hardest part of barber school was completing the 1500 hours of hands on training which is about 10 months of training. Students in these barbering programs take coursework in theory and receive hands on training in haircutting techniques. I was invited to share my methods and best practices for a popular haircut - the bald fade. The art and technique of the bald fade involves, clippers, detail trimmers and a good eye. Bald fade aside, I shared details of my journey as a barber and a few things you won’t learn in barber college. I look forward to visiting these ambitious students in the very near future. Thank you Urban Barber College for the opportunity!
Lastly, I offer semi private or private barbering classes to aspiring, new or seasoned barbers who want to improve their skills. I can teach you how to offer the best haircuts to your clients, leaving them feeling fresh and wanting to come back. My Master Class will provide you with the ability to create a quality haircut in a timely manner, which is the secret to success in the world of men’s hair-styling. You can request an appointment at redthebarbersj.com - Master Class Monday.
I’ll share some key learnings or gems as I like to call them, here on my blog. Stay tuned and welcome to the Red the Barber Blog. - Red
